It is embedded in every CMYK print PDF folio makes, as the PDF/X OutputIntent (OutputConditionIdentifier "FOGRA39", RegistryName "http://www.color.org"). It is NOT the ECI "ISO Coated v2" profile and contains no part of it. It is NOT certified, approved or endorsed by Fogra; "FOGRA39" only identifies the reference characterisation data it was built from. Source data ----------- FOGRA39L characterisation data (1617 patches; CMYK -> CIE XYZ / CIELAB, D50, 2 degree, 45/0), by Fogra Forschungsinstitut fuer Medientechnologien e.V. (www.fogra.org). Fogra's terms of use, quoted from the download page (retrieved 2026-10-05): "Free use and redistribution of the Fogra characterisation data is permitted, including redistribution as part of commercial and non-commercial software, provided that the data are distributed unmodified and Fogra is identified as the source. The designation FOGRAxx may be used solely to identify the respective reference data. Such use does not imply certification, approval or endorsement by Fogra." The data file is kept unmodified in folio's source repository (ui/wasm/icc/data/FOGRA39.txt) as the build input. The profile itself carries none of the measurement data (built with colprof -nc). How it was built (reproducible; two clean builds are byte-identical) -------------------------------------------------------------------- ui/wasm/icc/build.sh in folio's repository: - container debian:bookworm-20250929-slim @sha256:7e490910eea2861b9664577a96b54ce68ea3e02ce7f51d89cb0103a6f9c386e0 (linux/amd64) - packages from snapshot.debian.org/archive/debian/20250929T000000Z: argyll 2.3.1+repack-1.1+b1 - txt2ti3 FOGRA39.txt fogra39 - colprof -qm -bh -kr -l330 -L95 -nc -s sRGB.icm -cmt -dpp (A2B 9^4 + 1024-point curves, B2A 33^3; medium (ramp) black generation; total ink 330 %; black 95 %; perceptual table gamut-mapped from sRGB, relative colorimetric unmapped) - header creation date fixed at 2026-10-05T00:00:00 for reproducibility. ArgyllCMS (AGPL-3.0, by Graeme W. Gill) is used only at build time and is not distributed with folio. Its documentation states: "the profiles created using ArgyllCMS, are not subject to any claims or restrictions of ArgyllCMS's author(s), but are assumed to be the copyright property of the person who gathers the characterization data, and causes the profiles to be created." (https://www.argyllcms.com/doc/ArgyllDoc.html, "Copyright, Licensing & Trade Mark") Use of this profile ------------------- Because every PDF folio exports embeds it, anyone may use, embed and redistribute this profile unchanged together with those PDFs.
